Performer, choreographer and instructor of Middle Eastern Bellydance, Elektra earned a reputation as a passionate, dynamic professional artist. Lifetime lover of the arts, Elektra was raised taking art, dance, and acting classes since childhood. Her love of Middle Eastern dance came shortly after beginning college when she decided to take a workshop. That workshop that sparked her interest was taught by the renowned bellydancer Kaeshi from bellyqueen.
From the very beginning, Elektra noticed the movements felt like second nature. The music spoke to her in a way her body understood. The movements and the energy of the dance convinced Elektra this was the journey she was seeking. To strengthen her craft she began to take classes continuously in a mission to see where this dance would take her. Her new passion for Middle Eastern Dance became her newfound pursuit (See Training page to learn about her training).
In May 2008, Elektra joined her first bellydance competition and won. She was awarded East Coast Headliner of the year 2008 title. A breathe taking event that helped Elektra's career as a respected dancer today. Elektra, meaning “burning fire / burning flame” is a perfect way to describe this dancers passion. Elektra has a natural gift to project her energy to both enchant and charm her audience. It’s hard to find a person in the room not smiling whenever Elektra is on stage performing.
As an instructor, Elektra is passionate about sharing her talents and gifts. In her classroom she systematically breaks down movements to the essential core and helps students develop technique, self confidence, body awareness and healthy outlook to Middle Eastern bellydance.
As an artist, Elektra is continuously on a quest to discover the dance from the past and the way it is re-inventing itself in the future. Today she contours the dance into her own style and out as a reflection to who she is as an artist.
Elektra is a proud Native New Yorker who flourished in Manhattan most of her life. Part of her natural ability to perform stems from the fact she was exposed to the wide diverse energy of the city of New York. For Elektra, New York City is the place she has always called her home. She has the attitude, charisma, energy, will, ambition, love, creativity and strength of a hard working native New Yorker. These attributes help her succeed as successful a professional entertainer, and instructor she is today.
She strives to help promote the beauty, love and excitement of Middle Eastern bellydance by bringing forth those elements whenever she performs. Her goal is to strengthen the bellydance community by continuing to connect with fellow dancers to produce wonderful bellydance shows and events. Her daily mission (she takes very seriously) is to continuously educate people about what bellydancing really is and not what the stereotypes say.
