How long is a typical Bellydance Performance?
| A typical show ranges anyway from 15min, 20-25min (classical show lenght), 30-40min show or even longer. You can also break shows up into 2 intervals of 15 minute dancing or 3 intervals of 10 minute dancing with breaks in-between. And you can even request the dancer have a costume change. The performance rate depends on the length of the show and other factors. |
Are there different styles of bellydance? Which kind would work for my event?

Yes there are different styles of bellydance, such as American Cabaret, Turkish, Egyptian classical/modern, Lebanse, Morroccan, Arabic Fusion, Tribal, Greek and other styles that fuse together. Here in the US you tend to find American Cabaret and Modern Egyptian dance styles to be the most popular at your average parties or venues. It's best to find out what kind of crowd you are going to have when decided which style you prefer. If you're unsure about what style of bellydancing you would like to have for your event please visit the reference page on the different styles of bellydance so you can compare the styles and decide on your own which you would prefer to see. |
Is audience participation part of the show? Will the guest of honor be asked to dance along with the dancer?
| When appropriate, the show may include audience participation. But only willing participants will be asked up to dance. |
Is the show appropriate for children?
| Yes, all performances are family friendly and professional. The shows are for celebration, memories, laughter and fun! |
Is tipping appropriate?
| Yes, tips are accepted, it can be tucked into the dancers belt (where her hips are). No tipping in the bra will be tolerated. Another option (most recommended) is to throw tips over the dancers head while she performs to look as if its raining money (this is a traditional way of tipping in Middle Eastern Culture). |
What if I need more than one bellydancer?
| Elektra has a large network of bellydancer friends throughout NYC. She can create group performances or smaller duet shows tailored for your specific show. She can book many dancers for you at anytime, just be clear on how many dancers you are looking for ;-) |
How much is it to hire a NYC bellydancer?
| Rates depend on many event factors such as performance time, location...etc. It all boils down to your own specific event details. Please ask for a rate sheet to get a better idea what kind of rate fits you best. |
How will I be secure that the dancer will show up & not ditch me?

All performances booked with Elektra must be scheduled through a performance contract. After working out the details on the show you wish to see, Elektra will email you her performance contract which will explain your rights as a client & her rights as a performer. If at any reason the booked dancer isn't able to make a show another dancer will automaticallly be scheduled in her place so that your show will go on! *Special Note: If you book a dancer without a performance contract beware that your dancer may not be legit. Be careful who you hire and always request a copy of the contract for your own safety. |
